Liam is definitely in the "terrible two's". We are experiencing screaming and crying over many things that just don't seem all that important to me or Evan, such as:
-washing your hands after dinner
-washing the soap out of your hair after bathtime
-taking your socks off
-taking your shoes off
-picking out pajamas
-picking out books
-not getting enough Jell-O with dinner (after two helpings were already given)
My favorite thing that Liam currently does is saying no to me. I can't speak for Evan but I'm guessing it's his favorite too. And it's not just NO! it's NNNNNNNOOO! Very loudly and very nasty.
Hopefully the terrible two's will continue until he's 4 or older. So far it's been my favorite phase of Liam's existence.
-It is entirely possible that I am being extremely sarcastic in everything that I write at this very moment.

Welcome to the Jungle
4 kids, 2 dogs, me and a Grandma. This has been my life for the last 36 hours. And it was FUN!
Yesterday we had Staley come over for the day to play so Liam was pretty ecstatic about playing with his cousin and wow did they have a great time! At about 11, Grandma Fink, Violet, Eli, Blair, Stephanie and Baxter also came over. All the kids got to play together and have lunch while Blair and Stephanie exited to get ready for their big trip to Hawaii. I hope they have a wonderful time and am only slightly jealous that I don't get to go as well.
Evan and I are watching Baxter for the next week while Violet and Eli are going to Canton to spend the week with grandparents. I'm hoping that we got the easy "child."
I think it's been awhile since Staley has been around so many kids because about 20 minutes before her usual nap she asked to be put down because she was tired. HA! Unfortunately she did not sleep but talked happily in her pack n play for an hour and a half. Ugh! I thought for sure she was down for the count and took Violet with me to run some errands while Grandma Fink made sure all the kids slept.
After naptime we decided to take the kids to the Normal Library. They had a blast and it was only slightly stressful getting 4 kids ready to walk out the door. In fact I made this point to my mother and also complimented her on doing this with her own four children every day. My mom just smiled and tried to play it off like it was no big deal. And of course also made the point that we never had car seats when I was a kid so she just shoved us all into the car and off we went. (in her words)
Staley went home, and because Evan is in California right now for the weekend, my mom and the kids stayed the night with me.
There was only one moment where the kids were truly in trouble, don't worry Ellen it was after Staley left, mom and I were downstairs cooking dinner and the kids had gone upstairs by themselves. Violet comes running into the kitchen: "Aunt Melissa, Aunt Melissa, Eli and Liam went up to the attic!"
Sure enough there they both were at the top of the attic stairs and I was furious! The attic is in no way childproof as I'm sure you can imagine so all 3 of them were sent to timeout as I'm sure Violet had something to do with it as well. After a couple minutes I went to each of them and made sure they understood that the attic was off limits. Eli was very sorry, Liam was sorry but Violet was just talking away and I don't think truly grasped the danger they could have been in. So I told her if there is anywhere or anything she wants to do and she isn't sure if it's ok she has to ask me. Her reply? "Um, Aunt Melissa but you will always tell me no. When I am 39 can I go in the attic then?"
Some more Violetisms:
M-"Violet what time do you guys go to bed?"
V-"Whatever time the movie gets over. Yeah, that's right"
V-"Do we get a snack now?"
M-"You just ate dinner, why would you get a snack 10 minutes before going to bed?"
V-"That's what mommy always does, we always get a snack before bed."
M-"Well, that's not happening at this house." (I do always tell her no:))
And today we Skyped with Aunt Adriane, went to the Children's museum and had a nice lunch in uptown normal. The kids were exhausted and I'm sure fell asleep in mom's car on the way to Canton.

Pictures of last night and Saturday morning:
As you can see we did a lot of cool things together. The kids all had an amazing time and Grandma and I survived. The dogs haven't gotten into a fight yet and the house didn't burn down. I am so grateful that my mom could come help me while Evan is gone. I keep telling people how better Liam is behaved around others instead of just with his parents. My mom doesn't believe that Liam is in the terrible two's yet. I had to laugh out loud at that one. And tonight we go to Staley's house for dinner, playtime and so I can snuggle with an almost 4 week old baby. Woo Hoo!

Baseball injuries
Spring is in the air! Warmer temperatures and the start of baseball season has made it apparent that we are officially in spring.
Evan came home today from work with some surprise presents for Liam. The first surprise was a baseball and bat. The second surprise was a baseball glove for Liam and the third gift was Liam's first set of baseball cards. It was a lot of fun watching Evan and Liam together tonight. Evan teaching Liam how to hold the bat, how not to hit Butters with the bat and how to catch the ball in his very own glove. I wanted to document this important moment in Liam's life so enjoy this little video we made of Liam's first game of catch.
Oh yeah, that is Evan and I laughing at the end and don't worry Liam didn't cry. Nor does he have any bruising of any kind. I swear we need to send this stuff into America's Funniest Home Videos.
