Don't get me wrong, Liam definitely throws little fits when he doesn't get his way. But last night....we had our first real temper tantrum.
I don't think Evan or I even really know what it was about. Although I think I have some ideas as to what brought it up....
When Liam and I come home from daycare/work he is ALWAYS hungry. He wants to eat right away, even though he has just had a snack at daycare an hour ago. If I ignore these requests (screaming), I can guarantee that the whole night will be a disaster. So, last night as I was trying to make meatballs for our dinner that night, I strategically placed his snack container next to me so I could keep giving him food as he requested.
Cue Daddy who comes home (5:10), everyone is happy and we all go upstairs to spend time together. Evan and Butters leave for their walk (its raining) and Liam and I watch Disney movie clips on YouTube until they get back.
Now I finally get to start making dinner, (6:00) which really isn't that late. I always tend to underestimate how much time it takes me to put dinner together so when I thought Spaghetti and Meatballs 15 minutes no problem, it turned into 30 minutes later.
Liam has come into the kitchen maybe 3 times since I started to make dinner, each time crying and showing his sign for "more." Dinner is now ready (6:30) and we tell Liam to go to his chair so we can eat. He has now decided that he is fed up with us. I mean really how many times do you have to ask to eat?
I won't go any further with details, because really who wants to hear details of an actual temper tantrum. It did include lots of screaming, crying and tears. Even when we were trying to feed him food at that point he was so mad at us he just pushed it away. We took him out of the highchair, he would want back in just so he could scream and push the fork away. I took him outside thinking some fresh air would snap him out of it. (which he did quiet down but as soon as we turned back towards the door, he would start screaming again)
20 minutes later when he had clearly worn himself out and his eyes were closed I shoved some squash into his mouth and for some reason he decided that he would stop screaming and just eat.
So it began with no explanation and ends with no explanation. Is that why they call it a tantrum? Can't wait for the next one!
