This afternoon while reading Liam his story before naptime, Liam sneezed......
and a pea shot out onto the page of our book.
Seriously???? 19 1/2 hours after we got the first pea out, the second one came out as well. Is this a record? It's not like he has not blown his nose today at all. I can think of at least 4 different occasions where he blew his nose and did it really well. And nothing besides mucous was in the tissue.
Note to self: DO NOT LEAVE THE TABLE WHILE LIAM IS STILL EATING!
Now I'm really hoping that is it. But if we find another one in 6 hours I'll be sure to let you know.

You know...
You know your son is having a great bath when he toots in the tub and start laughing at the "bubbles" that he made.
And then continues to try to toot so that he can make more "bubbles."
You know how much your son's obsessions begin to become your obsessions when you're out running errands and you see a bus, truck or airplane and immediately scream in your head BUS! LOOK A BUS! CITY BUS!
You know you have an awesome dog when you come up from the basement and find your son laying completely on top of her and she just looks at me like, "Yep, this kid is 'trying' to hug me again, I really hate this but I'll allow it, because I really only love you. Now kindly tell him to get away from me."
You know it's been a great meal when you see your son shoving his finger extremely far up his nose, look down at his plate, remember that you served peas, and force him to start blowing his nose.
Luckily there was only one up there. Luckily it came out.

Mother's Day-Part II
Well, the day started off great with a rocky middle and than we ended the night just as well as it started.
I awoke to Evan getting out of bed at 6:30 am. This is not the time that Evan usually gets up in the morning, I am the morning person in the relationship. I knew he was going to bring me breakfast in bed so I kept myself in bed in order for that to happen. Isn't that sweet? Forcing himself out of bed to honor the mother of his child with breakfast in bed. What a great husband!
Liam awoke shortly after and since Evan had left (apparently to buy bacon) I got up and let him cuddle with me. So far everything is still great.
Evan and Liam brought me pancakes, bacon, juice and flowers in bed. As well as a picture frame that Liam had painted for me. They also gave me my very pink slippers that they had bought the day earlier. (the shoes that Liam wasn't supposed to tell me about) I didn't want to eat alone upstairs so Evan thought he would bring up the rest of the food as well and we could all have a pancake picnic in bed. Again so far everything is just hunky dory.
When the world shifted out of alignment we're still not sure, but when Evan brought Liam his pancake already cut up he remembered that he is a toddler and he decided that he wasn't really doing his job and began to throw one of his famous tantrums right in the middle of our 'pancake picnic'. After a couple minutes of screaming and crying Evan had enough and picked him and the pancake up and downstairs they went. Leaving me in the wondrous sounds of silence. I came downstairs about 10 minutes later to Liam eating Cheerios instead. Apparently it wasn't a pancake kind of morning for him. Evan had also gotten me a dozen red roses. (He did really well this year didn't he!)
We continued the morning in crying and whining until we threatened that we would not go to church to see Grammie, Grandpa, Staley, Adelie, Aunt Ellen and Uncle Zach if we heard one more whiny cry. He apparently believed us and kept quiet until we got to church.
Returning home for lunch was met with more crying and whining with very little eating. So Evan put him down for a nap at 12:45. A slightly earlier naptime than usual, we parents couldn't take it anymore.
After a 2 1/2 hour nap my sweet boy was back. We played at the park, went to dinner and Liam played in the bathtub.
Evan got to mow the yard, I planted some grass and my flower pots. I did our laundry and cleaned the house (slightly).
Overall a pretty great day minus the 4 hours in the morning where there was a terrible two year old in the house. Thanks to my husband who truly made me feel taken care of. You didn't want me to clean the house or do the laundry but you respected that I was in the cleaning mood. (those cleaning moods don't come around too often, so when you get one, you gotta go with it)
Enjoy the pictures of the good moments today.

Maybe not the best at keeping secrets
Tonight after getting home from Canton, Evan said he needed to run some "errands." Hint: Mother's day is tomorrow. I insisted that Liam go along because isn't this what mother's day is all about? Liam picking something out for me???
When the car pulled up I opened the door to see Evan and Liam still in the car but Evan talking to Liam very seriously. I assumed he was telling him not to tell me what they had just done.
In the door they walked and Liam said....
"We bought you shoes Mommy!" And in case I didn't understand what he had said he repeated shoes another four times.
Evan and I were dying of laughter.
So if you have some deep dark secret and think telling a 2 year old is a good idea, you had better keep it to yourself.

Mother's Day Part I: For my mom
Today we spent the day in Canton with my mom and dad. Liam was so excited this morning when he was told we would be going to see Grandma and Grandpa in Canton. He kept saying "Go Canton Dog? Where's Nannie? Where's Papa"the WHOLE way to Canton.
Once there he got to go to the library with Daddy and Papa and to the meat shop to pick up steaks for dinner. And when he got back home Mommy and Grandma took him to the little playground a half block away. He demonstrated his excellent rock climbing skills for Grandma and due to some leftover rainwater at the top of the slide his pants got soaked. Which turned out to be a good thing as this made him go extremely slow when going down the slides.
During naptime Mom and I went to the nursery and she helped me pick out plants for my pots. Despite my insistence, she wouldn't pick anything out for herself and even paid for my flowers. I thought this was Mother's day coming up, wasn't I supposed to get her something? My wonderful mother said just me coming home to spend the day with her was enough and she didn't need anything else. I hope I can remember this sentiment when Liam is 30 years old.
She also thanked me for making her a mother, or since I was the last of four, for turning out so great to finish things off. But then stated that all of her daughters have turned out great and she could have stopped with any one of us. To which I told her she saved the best for last.
So now I will say: Thanks for being such a great Mom! Thanks for all the important lessons you taught me over the years like how annoying it is when someone replies with 'I don't know'. How when you commit to something, like piano or the trumpet, you do it your best. Even if that means staying home from your French class field trip to practice because I didn't do it for four previous days and I had a lesson coming up. Thanks for allowing me to be the social butterfly and try new things that my sisters had not done, like cheerleading and going to every single dance. Thanks for allowing me to date Evan, and go on vacation with his family, and eat dinner with his family even though it was just you and me at home. I kind of forgot about you a lot when I was 17 didn't I? Sorry about that. Thanks for helping us put our first home together. For always having creative ideas on ways we can redo our kitchen, landscaping our yard, painting our stairwell and teaching me how to follow and sew a pattern. And thank you for giving me the best example of how to be a loving mother to my own son. For teaching me how to include God in our lives and in our parenting.
Thanks Mom! You're the best!

Update
Just a few things to keep everyone updated in the life of Liam:
It turns out that the radio not working in Evan's car is a good thing as this allows Evan at stop lights, on the way to the babysitters, to review Liam's alphabet flash cards. Currently they are working on Aa, Ll and Nn.
Since I am attempting to exercise at the moment I forgot that I had my 5 lb weights on the floor until I heard a loud thud. (I was in the kitchen) As it was a foreign sound to my ears that meant I had to investigate, where I met Liam in the dining room, carrying both of my weights (10 lbs) with lots of grunting, bringing them to me so I could keep working out.
Tonight on our walk Liam rode in his wagon for most of our walk. Towards the end he asked to be let out so he could run. Turns out he is quite the little runner and also got quite a few smiles on the constitution trail. After stopping at the bicycle shop to see if they had any tricycles (they didn't) I asked him if he wanted to get back in the wagon for the two blocks home. Of course he said no and instead wanted to pull the wagon. All by himself. All the way home. And when he was made aware that I would pull the wagon and hold his hand while crossing the street he of course cried and yelled "Me do it! Me do it Mommy!"
If Liam is getting in trouble for something and he thinks his mom or dad is being mean and unfair he will ask for the other parent. I think he's secretly trying to form an alliance with one of us, he just isn't clear on who it should be yet.
Every night before bedtime Liam sits on the potty and will pee consistently. Possibly only because he consistently gets an M & M.
And it turns out that at his babysitters Liam has become quite the bully. Every day for the last 2-3 weeks we hear about him hitting, pushing, not listening to others and today he bit someone. We don't know what to do about this behavior yet. Currently we remind him every morning and night that if he wants to be friends and be a nice boy that all of the above behaviors are unacceptable. So far that's not working.
Besides being the bully Liam's personality is really shining through. He is really funny, loves to make people laugh and is a very good sharer with his cousins. Every night we pray for Papa Fink and Papa Walles. Others make the list but these are the consistent ones. And the other night he prayed for Daddy, and to make sure that Jesus knew who he was talking about he said Evan.

It's hard to be 2
Liam is definitely in the "terrible two's". We are experiencing screaming and crying over many things that just don't seem all that important to me or Evan, such as:
-washing your hands after dinner
-washing the soap out of your hair after bathtime
-taking your socks off
-taking your shoes off
-picking out pajamas
-picking out books
-not getting enough Jell-O with dinner (after two helpings were already given)
My favorite thing that Liam currently does is saying no to me. I can't speak for Evan but I'm guessing it's his favorite too. And it's not just NO! it's NNNNNNNOOO! Very loudly and very nasty.
Hopefully the terrible two's will continue until he's 4 or older. So far it's been my favorite phase of Liam's existence.
-It is entirely possible that I am being extremely sarcastic in everything that I write at this very moment.
