This is our lengthy post about Caroline at the age of 8. It is for us to look back on and remember our girl at this time in her life.
Caroline is 4 feet and 1 inches tall and weighs 49 pounds. She wears 7/8 clothes but still 6 in shorts. She mainly wears pants, shorts and t-shirts with dresses being a rare occasion.
Caroline had a great 2nd grade year at school. She loved her teacher, Mrs. Moore, and excelled at reading. We are working with her to become more proficient in her math skills and to also become a better writer. She has a lot of great journal entries but does not like to write more than a few sentences at a time. Her teacher was encouraging her to expand on her thoughts throughout the year. She still enjoys reading and learning about animals and bugs. At the beginning of summer she went to Heartland College for a Bug Adventure class for 3 days where they learned many exciting things and were able to use microscopes as well. At the end of July she went to Zoo Camp at our local zoo where they learned about animals from each continent and were able to pet several animals as well.
Caroline went to church camp again this year as a day camper. She left the church at 9 and would return around 3 each day and had lots of exciting things to tell us each night. They learned about David all week. She would also give us a report on how Liam and Eli were getting along as they were there for the overnight camp.
Over this past year Caroline took gymnastics and swimming lessons. She did well in both but absolutely loves swimming.
She also continued with her piano lessons and is becoming more confidant with many of her pieces. She likes to sit and play old songs or make up her own songs when we ask her to practice and while its great to be creative and have fun, many times I have to sit with her during practice time to make sure she is actually prepared for her next lessons assignments.
Caroline is a wonderful big sister to Lucy. They are still quite good friends and rarely fight. She is good about including Lucy in her play when neighbors come over to and they have loads of fun together.
She has also figured out how to have fun with Liam. Sometimes that includes teasing Lucy (which mom and dad do not tolerate) but also it means playing library or hotel all together.
Her best friends are still Chaya and Adrian. Chaya has now moved to Tennessee and while that was sad at first, Caroline has been great at accepting that and knows that they are still friends even if they live far from each other.
Caroline goes to bed between 8:30-9 pm and usually wakes up around 7:30. She likes to come in our room and snuggle with Dad and Archie.
Her favorite foods are Spaghetti and meatballs, pop tarts, all kinds of fruit, many vegetables, sausage pizza from Monicals, hamburgers...actually there is really not very many foods that Caroline won't eat. She does not like cheese or milk on their own but will use milk in her cereal and likes cheese when its melted.
Caroline is still great at anything creative. Her artwork is amazing and we are always amused by her wit and sense of humor. She is truly a very caring, thoughtful person; she is very in tune with how others around her are feeling and aims to make others feel better.
We truly feel so lucky to be her parents and look forward to watching her become her own person!
